SAN DIEGO, March 28, 2019 – Panelists participating in this week's US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) Advisory Committee meeting on breast implant device safety are urging the government agency to take steps to better inform patients about the devices' risks and benefits. Among the topics discussed were Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) and systemic symptoms reported by patients with synthetic breast implants.

Over the past decade, autologous fat grafting has become a safe and natural alternative for patients seeking breast augmentation or reconstruction. Fat grafting starts with the process of using liposuction to remove excess fat tissue from a specific part of a patient’s body, usually the thighs, stomach or buttocks. The fat tissue is then purified and carefully re-injected to augment, reshape, or reconstruct soft tissue volume elsewhere in the body. An advantage over synthetic implants is that by using a patient's own tissue, the procedure is not likely to cause a foreign body reaction.

“The relative safety of breast augmentation procedures is an important factor in women’s augmentation decisions,” said Brad Conlan, Chief Executive Officer of Puregraft. “Previous and ongoing research has substantiated the safety and effectiveness of autologous fat transfer. We aim to equip patients with information to discuss all available options with their surgeon and together decide the best approach for their breast surgery.”

Puregraft fat grafting products are FDA cleared and have been used in over 75,000 procedures worldwide. The Puregraft technology includes a unique filter to purify fat tissue and improve the likelihood of transferred fat being retained over time, ultimately translating into improved patient outcomes.
